The “Safe-Swap” Upgrade (v0.4.x+)

Because MemoryBox is local-first, your Synaptic Archive (your database of memories) is stored separately from the Application Engine. This allows you to upgrade the software by simply replacing the application files while leaving your data intact.
Note: These steps apply to all versions from 0.4.0 and above. Always ensure MemoryBox is fully closed before starting an upgrade.
1

Quit MemoryBox

Ensure the app is not running. Check the Menu Bar for the MemoryBox icon and select Quit.
2

Remove Old Version

Open your Applications folder and move the current MemoryBox app to the Trash. (Note: This does not delete your memory database, which is stored in your Library folder).
3

Install New Version

Download the latest .dmg from your invitation link, open it, and drag the new version into Applications.
4

Launch

Open the new version. Your Personas, Memory Spaces, and Sessions will be automatically detected.

Upgrading the Collector

Browser extensions typically handle their own updates, but for the unpacked installation (Chrome), you may need a manual refresh. For Chrome (Unpacked):
  1. Download the new extension folder.
  2. Replace the contents of your existing extension folder on your drive with the new files.
  3. Go to chrome://extensions and click the Refresh (circular arrow) icon on the MemoryBox card.
For Firefox: Simply click the new .xpi link in your invitation; Firefox will prompt you to “Update” the existing extension.
