The Foundation

The General tab is the primary interface for managing your identity within MemoryBox and configuring how the application lives on your hardware.

👤 Account

At the top of the General pane, you can verify your active session details.
  • Profile Verification: Displays the name and email address currently associated with your local session. Use this to verify you are working within the correct Synaptic Archive.

🖥️ App Behavior

These settings control how MemoryBox interacts with your operating system to ensure a seamless workflow:
  • Keep running in menu bar: When enabled, closing the main window will not quit the application. MemoryBox remains available in your system menu bar for instant access.
  • Launch at startup: Automatically initialize your Synaptic Archive the moment you restart your computer.
  • Language: Set the primary interface language. By default, this follows your operating system’s region settings.

⌨️ Global Shortcut

The Global Shortcut allows you to summon the MemoryBox window instantly, regardless of which application you are currently using.
  • Default: Control + Alt + M
  • Customization: Click Record shortcut to capture a new key combination that fits your specific muscle memory.

🔄 Memory Sync Configuration

This section manages how your digital DNA is synchronized across different AI tools and local environments.

Enable Sync

When toggled on, MemoryBox actively synchronizes your memories across supported chatbots. This ensures that a trait or context discovered in one session is available in another.

Sync Destination

Choose how your Shared Storage is managed across your devices:
Use a local directory to mirror your memory data. This is ideal for users who want to manage their own cloud-syncing or keep data strictly offline.
  • Shared Directory: Click Browse to select a specific folder on your machine.
  • Sync Interval: Define how often (in minutes) MemoryBox should perform a synchronization check.
  • Sync Status: View the live status from the memory agent to confirm your archive is up to date.

💽 Data Sovereignty

In the top-right corner of this section, click Memory Store Location for direct transparency.
  • Direct Access: This opens your system’s file explorer (Finder or Windows Explorer) to the exact folder where your primary archive files live.
  • Privacy Verification: You can see exactly what is being stored on your hardware at any time. This ensures you maintain total ownership of your local data.

💾 Saving Your Configuration

To apply your adjustments to your workspace, you must commit your changes.
  • Save: Click Save in the bottom-right corner to apply your new settings.
  • Cancel: Click Cancel to discard changes and revert to your previous configuration.
Unsaved Changes: Navigating away from a settings tab or closing the window without clicking Save will result in the loss of your adjustments.
